Amalgam Comics, Marvel and DC 1996-1997
Amalgam Comics is a fictional comic book brand that was created by Marvel Comics and DC Comics in the mid-1990s. This collaboration between the two powerhouses of the comic book industry was an attempt to merge their most iconic and recognizable characters into a single shared universe, with each comic book issue featuring a hybrid character created from two popular superheroes.
The Amalgam Comics brand introduced readers to characters such as Wolverine and Batman combined to make Dark Claw, Superman and Captain America merged to create Super-Soldier, and the Flash and Ghost Rider fused to become Speed Demon, among many others. Each character had their own unique storylines and rivalries in this new Amalgam universe.
The exciting and unique concept of Amalgam Comics quickly gained popularity among comic book fans and collectors, and the brand even produced some one-shot titles that served as parodies of both Marvel and DC comics.
Sadly, the brand did not last long, as it was eventually discontinued after publishing only about 24 issues. However, Amalgam left a lasting impact on the comic book industry and remains a beloved and collectible piece of comic book history. It provided a fun and unique opportunity for comic book fans to see their favorite superheroes in new and exciting stories, and some characters from Amalgam even made appearances in other comics and media adaptations.
