When downloading, you’ll often see several quality levels: HD, Full HD, 2K, 4K. Which should you pick? This article helps you decide quickly.
Common quality levels
- HD (720p): sharp enough on a phone, small file, fast download.
- Full HD (1080p): the best balance of sharpness and size — right for most needs.
- 2K (1440p): noticeably crisper on large screens, larger file.
- 4K (2160p): maximum sharpness, ideal for big TVs and editing; very large files.
Which should you choose?
- Watching on a phone, quick sharing: 720p – 1080p.
- Archiving, big-screen playback: 1080p – 2K.
- High-quality reference, video editing: 4K if the source has it.
Important: you can only download the level the source has. If the creator posted at 1080p, there won’t be a 4K option. The tool always shows the available levels.
Why do high versions take longer?
For YouTube, versions 720p and up store picture and sound separately, so the server downloads both and merges them — this takes extra time, with a progress bar to follow. Details in Download YouTube in 4K and MP3.
For TikTok and Douyin, videos are usually a single stream, so they download faster.
A tip to save space
If your phone storage is limited, choosing 1080p instead of 4K still looks great while being far smaller. Only pick 4K when you truly need it.
Only need the audio? See Download MP3 from TikTok and Douyin.
