★ Compress Video
Free online video compressor
Make a large video small enough to send through a chat app or email — compressed entirely in your browser, with no upload.
Upload a video (MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV…)
Chat apps and email reject or squash big videos. This tool re-encodes your video to a much smaller MP4 using three simple presets, so you can pick the balance between file size and sharpness without learning any encoder settings.
Everything runs on your own device with WebAssembly: the video never leaves your computer or phone, which also means there is no upload wait and no file-size cap set by a server.
Why use this compressor?
Presets for sharing
Pick "messaging" for a light 720p file, "smallest" for 480p, or keep the original resolution and only compress harder.
Private by design
Your video is processed locally in the browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by anyone else.
Plays everywhere
The result is a standard H.264 + AAC MP4 that opens on phones, computers and chat apps.
Frequently asked questions
Will the quality drop?
Compression always trades some detail for size. The messaging preset keeps video clear on a phone screen; the smallest preset is noticeably softer. If the result is larger than the original, the file was already well compressed.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs entirely on your device using WebAssembly, so nothing is sent to a server.
Why does it take a while?
Re-encoding is heavy work and runs inside your browser on a single thread, so it is slower than desktop software. Short clips finish quickly; long or high-resolution videos can take several minutes.
How large a file can I compress?
It depends on your device's memory. Clips up to a few hundred MB work well; very large files (over about 1–2 GB) may fail in the browser.
